Crap!

I can’t believe I got that WIZARD! After flipping through the magazine and realized, 60 seconds later, that I’ve read everything in that issue on the net, I just wanted to kick myself. Or at least go back to Page One and ask for a refund (and try to come up with an excuse why they should give me a refund).

The cover story, which was all about all about the X-MEN’s new costumes, was completely useless for me since I’ve already bought the issue which shows their new costumes. I was hoping that this issue also contains the rejected Alex Ross designs, which I read about on the net. Turns out those designs are found in the X-MEN WIZARD special (which I’m not going to buy!)

I was also hoping that this issue of WIZARD would contain the 22-page preview of the new ELEKTRA series. What I got was a preview of the new GHOST RIDER series by Devin Grayson. Art looks like Todd McFarlane during the early 90s. I don’t go for it.

And the TOMB RAIDER poster didn’t come for free with the magazine. It is available exclusively through WIZARD. That’s a lot of help!

Trying to looking for something redeeming about the issue, the X-MEN article did offer trivia about what Grant and Joe Casey have planned for the characters.

The article also mentioned the “secret new powers” of Emma Frost. Are you ready for this? Due to some mutant event blah blah blah, the White Queen looses her telepathic powers but now has the ability to turn into ORGANIC DIAMOND!!!

Organic diamond?

What the heck is that?

She can now turn into her own best friend?!

That is Grant on drugs!

Okay… okay… I’ll give Grant the benefit of the doubt and see how he plays up with he so-called new power. Geez, did Grant read ALPHA FLIGHT? Did he get to read about Diamond Lil? Of course, the main difference is that Diamond Lil’s powers are always “on”. So, now Emma Frost is like Colossus, but she turns into diamond instead of organic steel. Big deal! But I have to admit, it’s more interesting to see Frost in her J.Lo outfit rather than Colossus in his yellow spandex. But then again, he’s dead, so it doesn’t really matter anymore.

ARRRRRRGGGH!!! I still can’t believe I bought that issue! I should have just ripped it open in Page One and try to read it while the guards try to drag me out of the store! Or I could have waited for it to arrive at National Bookstore, where someone would definitely open it and then I could read it for free!

Other stuff I could have bought at Page One:

The other Nick Hornby books. After seeing HIGH FIDELITY, I just had to read the book and thank God Roach had a copy. Damn Nick Hornby! What he did was… just too damn great for words! I was telling that guys that if Hornby can write about one’s manic obsession with records and vinyl and love then I can write about comic books from the point of view of a love sick wannabe comic book writer. But I think Kevin Smith already on a flag on that territory. Then again, it’s very big territory and that topic has not been exploited or exposed in the mainstream.

Hornby’s other two books are also available at Page One. They have two editions of HIGH FIDELITY, one more expensive than the other. And I should have just bought my own copy of HIGH FIDELITY instead of buying WIZARD!

The other thing I bought at Page One:
The latest issue of PULP, which contains the penultimate chapter of WASTED. One more issue and then it gets reprinted as one whole graphic novel again! Gerry plans to put new artwork, more pin-ups, and articles in this edition. Now, that’s I hope to see in the shelves of Page One and all the other bookstores soon!

Well, that’s it…

Have to go home now.

PANDAY RIDING THAT HEROIC CYCLE Below is an email ELSA BIBAT posted in the Alamat mailing list , prompted by a thread about making/writing/creating a new Panday story. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Okay, okay, I'm back...and I was hoping to have a break from writing stuff. Anyway, it is incredible that someone actually remembered the post. It's been lost to time for exactly a two years now. Thank you for notifying me. Let's begin with the original videotapes. My original videotapes are lost to time, but, I caught all three of the trilogy in ABS-CBN's FPJ Theater... or was that Saturday Action Cinema? GMA 7 went the entire nine yards and showed the entire series in one of their old Tagalog action film shows that were on Saturday nights. The sight alone of the aliens of Panday IV raising the undead and turning innocent villagers to badly made-up extras makes my belly ache. As an aside, FPJ should exercise the rights a...

I AM A FILIPINO

I am a Filipino – inheritor of a glorious past, hostage to the uncertain future. As such, I must prove equal to a two-fold task – the task of meeting my responsibility to the past, and the task of performing my obligation to the future. I am sprung from a hardy race – child many generations removed of ancient Malayan pioneers. Across the centuries, the memory comes rushing back to me: of brown-skinned men putting out to sea in ships that were as frail as their hearts were stout. Over the sea I see them come, borne upon the billowing wave and the whistling wind, carried upon the mighty swell of hope – hope in the free abundance of the new land that was to be their home and their children’s forever. This is the land they sought and found. Every inch of shore that their eyes first set upon, every hill and mountain that beckoned to them with a green and purple invitation, every mile of rolling plain that their view encompassed, every river and lake that promised a plentiful living ...
Couple of weeks ago, Ms. Diyco featured another campaign made by the creatives here at Harrison Communications. Here's her review about the Neozep "Neozerye" TV campaign: Romancing the mighty colds cure ADS AND ENDS, Nanette A Franco-Diyco BUSINESS WORLD Vol. XX, No. 139, Friday-Saturday, February 9-10, 2007 http://www.bworldonline.com/Weekender020907/main.php?id=marketing_diyco The four television commercials that serialize the life of pretty housemaid Luwalhati, culminating in a storybook wedding to her once-upon-a-time señorito from the imposing mansion belong to an ad campaign awards class all its own. There have been other spoofs of soap operas selling other brand categories in the past. But for several reasons put together, the Neozep series of commercials that began with honest-to-goodness ad teasers that looked and sounded like teasers for true-blue soap operas proved ultra entertaining and more importantly, "reinforced Neozep’s leadership and further s...
