. Culture Crash has been doing it for a year. Summit's getting into it. And now, comic book writer Steven Grant talks about the viability of the comics-magazine format. Something's in the air... could this be the next big thing? “…lately I've chatted with several creators attempting to do their own graphic novels. As most people who've done them know, a graphic novel is a huge, time-demanding undertaking, and while you can get paid as you go along to do a CAPTAIN AMERICA or MARTIAN MANHUNTER graphic novel, but if you're trying something truly adventurous, something original, you're pretty much on your own. This includes highly regarded, well-established talents with critical acclaim behind them, believe it or not. And publishers... continue to become increasingly conservative in their tastes.... This increasingly leaves original graphic novels in the province of "works of love," but as my grandmother used to say, "love is lik
REJECTION SLIP FROM A CHINESE ECONOMIC JOURNAL, QUOTED IN “THE FINANCIAL TIMES” We have read you manuscript with boundless delight. If we were to publish your paper, it would impossible for us to publish any work of lower standard. And as it unthinkable that in the next thousand years we shall see its equal, we are, to our regret, compelled to return your divine composition, and to beg you a thousand times to overlook our short sight and timidity.
. Wednesday, 11:03pm It was one of those days when almost nothing happened and it just left you absolutely tired. It just drains me how client can be so... oh what's the word... I don't... how they drive me crazy with these little revisions. It's just so easy to say yes to everything that they want, but it just somehow defeats the purpose of what the ad is supposed to be about. I'm rabmling and can't say much. Maybe tell you about it when the ad comes out. Maybe.
. Tuesday, 11:17pm Still at office. Waiting for some materials to get finished. Decided to look for pictures from Fete dela Music. Instead, I found this... "Let's face the bare facts. Very few guys watch pop-rock ensemble Mojofly just to see Ricci Gurango on bass or Junjun Regalado on drums.... Not to slight the rest of the band, but isn't it true that the guys really want to see Katrina "Kitchie" Nadal doing her thing?" Ohhh yesss! :) I most definitely agree. Saw her at Fete last Saturday. We were on our way out of Sidebar when she stepped on stage. So, we stuck around for one song. Man... she is a sight. Later went back up to Sidebar to catch the last couple of songs of Barbie . After her set, the crowd disappeared. Guess they were all Barbie fans. Anyway, that allowed me and Brandie to go up to the bar and get seats really close to watch Cooky and Color It Red . There was a time when every gig I'd watch of Color It Red
. Tuesday, 10am Still feels like my manic Monday has not come to an end. It’s that time of month when instant coffee is my friend. Damn, got no more cream.Back to black with some sugar. Got the old diabetes lecture from mom a couple of weeks ago. Still haven’t gone back to the café since that last time. I haven’t gone to my café or Salta’s café. Just don’t want to feel any more worse than I feel now. Have to start working on this wonderful flyer. Just need to warm up before I start writing how your life will change because of this and that phone. Wow! Yeehaaa! I’m so excited. I really need to get working on that pitch for that publisher and hopefully she’ll choose one idea, just one story and that would make me happy. And hopefully, that would make me and the whoever the team will be very rich. Told Dave about Nil and Gerry working on Superman. He was speechless for a couple of seconds. It’s really a big break for Nil and Gerry, to be able to work on a DC’s main ch
