EQUILIBRIUM Reviewed by Karen Kunawicz While REIGN OF FIRE had a lot of hype and dragons surrounding its release in theaters here, I was disappointed with the storytelling and the characters. To the point where I wanted the dragons to win and just wipe out the human race. GO DRAGONS GO! Not even Christian Bale's dark and grim stares or Matthew McConaughey's over the top redneck hardcore army guy could save the script, story and directing. EQUILIBRIUM was released on Manila screens without much hype and fanfare but when it comes to Sci-fi B Movies, this one totally SATISFIES! Borrow some elements from the Matrix, Gattaca, 1984 and throw in a little bit of Minority Report and you have the future world of Libria where war is eliminated by eliminating hate and anger, by eliminating human emotion. Dressing up in colors, listening to music, keeping works of art, falling in love, smiling, crying are included in the forms prohibited behavior. Enforcing the rules are...
Carl went to the office to deliver copies of ZSAZSA #2 and it suddenly became a mini-fans day. My CD even allowed us to use the conference room as a "autograph area." Nanni started to read her copy as soon as she got it and was almost done by the time Carl had to go. They were all thrilled to see one of Carl's sketches --a new character in Zsazsa's next adventure. Couple of hours later, we met up with Grace and her friends at Segafredo and they already got to read Zsazsa #2. They said they definitely want to see what happens next. Putting more pressure on Carl to start work on Zsazsa's Manila adventure. Let's see what happens to Zsazsa. I've got a feeling something great will happen before the end of the year. Go Carl, go!
Many thanks to Bernie Sim for once again recommending ZSAZSA to the unsuspecting masses. Read her reviews in my other blog KOMIX 101 .
It was late January and it was 1994. We were all at Bow's house, sprawled on the basketball court. Stuffed with grilled hamburgers and hotdogs and several liters of Coke. Tired from all the eating. My car was parked at the edge of the court. The trunk and all the doors were open and we were playing his tape... Acoustic Favorites, I think was the title. The last song on the tape was by Marc Cohn. And seemed to be the perfect soundtrack for the state of our lives back then. Suddenly remembered that song because of a story I'm working on. I was such a romantic. Now I'm just busy. PERFECT LOVE Marc Cohn Down by the boathouse at Shaker Lake When there wasn't nothing but love to make, They were two young lovers wishing on the stars above. Well, they carved their initials in an old birch tree With a heart and an arrow and a 'sixty-three. You had to be blind not to see... It was a perfect love. It was a perfect love. Ooh, yeah, yeah. Well, they w...
FROM THE BLOG OF MIKE "VINNIE" SIMBULAN , about the life and times of a Comic Quest shopkeeper, writer, Temporal researcher and professional bed. "Every night, I have to make my way home by 12 because my parents (who are Aliens from beyond the stars) transform into their true forms at this hour, and I must assume my appointed task of transforming myself into their bed. Ergo- My Life As A Bed."
