Well... you'll kinda, sorta, somewhat see Trese and Makabo at the Komikon. They'll be sold on the same table but they won't be in the same comic book. (Well, at least not yet.) The pin-up above was illustrated by Ian Sta. Maria. Makabo the Tikbalang is one of the characters from the comic book SKYWORLD. Before we ever get to this magical,mystical, marvelous team-up, you'll have to read Mervin Ignacio and Ian Sta. Maria's SKYWORLD: APOCRYPHA.

After many years of writing and drawing storyboards for clients (who have a tendecy to revise everything you put on the page) Mervin and Ian finally finished this story which they can say is all theirs. (Well, a couple of people gave their inputs and asked for changes as well. HAHAHA)

Aside from SKYWORLD, TRESE 7: EMBRACE OF THE UNWANTED will also be available at the Komikon.

So, for those of you who haven't picked up the complete set of TRESE, you can get all seven current issues at our table.

By the way, we will be sharing the table with Reno Maniquis where he will have several comic books for sale, including MASKARADO: VISIONS, the portfolio/comic celebrating 15 years of Maskarado.

Also available will be KADILIMAN: IN THEIR SILENT SHADOW CARVINAL, written by David Hontiveros with art by Edgar Tadeo.

The story puts the spotlight on Doktor Kadiliman, infamous villain back during the 1940s. We'll also get to see the original Justice Corps in action during World War II.

Dave wrote this story a long time ago and Edgar actually finished the art for this story last year, but we finally, finally get to release it this year. We hope you'll like it.

And I just read in Carl's blog that David's PENUMBRA horror novellas will also be available at the Komikon.

Badtrip. I wasn't able to go to Komikon this year kasi we were busy preparing for the Web Awards.

I want all the issues of Trese...by the way, any word when ish #8's gonna be out?

Ngayon ko lang ulet nabisita itong blog na 'to kaya huli na ako sa balita. The KADILIMAN cover made me wet my pants, when's it coming out? *Still dreaming of new Batch72 comics*

Will you Play it Safe in 2025?

One of my favorite songs which I learned about early this year. Our boss at the agency played this at one of our town hall meetings. It's reminder to all creators that we will always be told to "stick to safe ideas" (which is fine, if you just want to get the work done and go home) but there will always be this other voice at the back of your head that will ask, "Maybe there's another way to do this? Maybe there's a better way to tell this story? Maybe you can tell if from a different point of view and make this old story feel like new? Maybe you can spend a few more minutes working on it? How about it? Let's give it a try? Another hour trying to re-write? Let's give it a go!" The Flag Bearer I have always found it curious that in Philippine pop culture, there has never been a popular flag-bearing character. In United States, the obvious example would be Captain America; followed by Wonder Woman (with her red, white, blue and star-spangled outfit) and of course, Superman (whose costume follows the color motif of the American flag). They became symbols for the American people during World War II. In the days after 9/11, more New Yorkers were seen wearing their Superman and Captain America t-shirts. If we take a look at other countries, they didn’t seem to see the need to create such a character. Even when Marvel created characters like The Guardian (a Canadian super-hero) and Union Jack (a British super-hero), they didn’t seem to develop a big enough following and have comic book titles that reached the 100th issue or spin-off to become a TV or cartoon show.
