PROJ: DREAM GIRL

"Dream Girl" was something we finished shooting and editing early this year, but the commercial only started airing a couple of weeks ago.

The brief was to talk about how Tivoli chocolate is so delicious, you just can't eat one piece. So, instead of going through the usual route of showing someone eating the chocolate over and over again, we thought of showing the opposite. To show a situation that can never-ever happen again; a moment that only has a one in a million chance of ever happening and make that a counter-point to eating Tivoli, which you can have anytime you want.

Of course, since the team was composed of three guys (and girl), the first story we made was about a loser/geek guy, living in a run-down apartment who suddenly discovers that his newly-moved in neighbor is a Viva Hot Babe and needs to borrow some sugar and take a shower in his bathroom because there's no water her apartment.

Our boss thought the situation was too typical, which is why we had to revised and eventually came up with this story about a "handsome-showbiz-guy" talking about his dream girl.

Biba wrote the script and the description for the girl. I came up with the name for the girl, remembering a female-friend with the same name and thought it made for the perfect punchline for the TVC. She said her name has now been immortalized (or at last enjoyed its 15-minutes of fame).

It was Direk Matthew Rosen who came up with the new punchline for the TVC. He thought of it as we were about to shoot that particular frame. Goes to show that the process of creation doesn't stop after the client approves the storyboard. A lot can happen during the shoot, during the edit, during the mixing of the soundtrack.

We had fun doing this shoot. This was my first non-Globe TVC. (I've been working on Globe for the past seven years.) So, I somewhat missed spending hours shooting a cellphone screen. Which was replaced with hours of looking at chocolate swirl. (And we get to eat the props afterwards. hahaha)

PROJ: DEMO

This Trosyd radio commercial was written by Tin Sanchez of JWT. Very funny! I wished I'd get the chance to write funny RCs like this.

PANDAY RIDING THAT HEROIC CYCLE Below is an email ELSA BIBAT posted in the Alamat mailing list , prompted by a thread about making/writing/creating a new Panday story. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Okay, okay, I'm back...and I was hoping to have a break from writing stuff. Anyway, it is incredible that someone actually remembered the post. It's been lost to time for exactly a two years now. Thank you for notifying me. Let's begin with the original videotapes. My original videotapes are lost to time, but, I caught all three of the trilogy in ABS-CBN's FPJ Theater... or was that Saturday Action Cinema? GMA 7 went the entire nine yards and showed the entire series in one of their old Tagalog action film shows that were on Saturday nights. The sight alone of the aliens of Panday IV raising the undead and turning innocent villagers to badly made-up extras makes my belly ache. As an aside, FPJ should exercise the rights a...

I AM A FILIPINO

I am a Filipino – inheritor of a glorious past, hostage to the uncertain future. As such, I must prove equal to a two-fold task – the task of meeting my responsibility to the past, and the task of performing my obligation to the future. I am sprung from a hardy race – child many generations removed of ancient Malayan pioneers. Across the centuries, the memory comes rushing back to me: of brown-skinned men putting out to sea in ships that were as frail as their hearts were stout. Over the sea I see them come, borne upon the billowing wave and the whistling wind, carried upon the mighty swell of hope – hope in the free abundance of the new land that was to be their home and their children’s forever. This is the land they sought and found. Every inch of shore that their eyes first set upon, every hill and mountain that beckoned to them with a green and purple invitation, every mile of rolling plain that their view encompassed, every river and lake that promised a plentiful living ...

There have been other spoofs of soap operas selling other brand categories in the past. But for several reasons put together, the Neozep series of commercials that began with honest-to-goodness ad teasers that looked and sounded like teasers for true-blue soap operas proved ultra entertaining and more importantly, "reinforced Neozep’s leadership and further s...
