Those of you who are into the local comics scene may know of Alamat comics and its head honcho Budjette Tan. I just found out he maintains a mobile photo blog at Phlog.net.

The URL is http://www.phlog.net/user/budjette

It's updated often (through the mobile I think) and is a little strange, as you eavesdrop on meetings etc... It kind of reminds me of that Spike Jonze movie "Being John Malkovich" where you get to enter a portal into the actor's brain and see the world through his eyes.

About the pics with the meeting with Globe's president (Budjette's day job is for Harrison Communications) - maybe he's proposing a mobile blogging service! I think he had something to do with building Globe XTM - which didn't turn out to be so hot, I think.

Technically, it's easy to build a mobile blogging system... the existing ones you listed are apparently built using scrappy scripts and glue. The commercial supplier I pointed out before just hacked on Roller Weblogger, which I use.

However, it seems to me that to date, there has been no successful "media" web service based on mobile stuff. I can think
of "communications" apps like Chikka, or Bidshot.

Maybe it's because the critical mass of web users is too small to make an impact.

Globe XTM's ad campaign centered on a comic/superhero theme - I understand he was involved in that project.

Wow... I'm semi-famous! I'm quasi-famous! I'm... IN-famous! he he he

Anyway... to kinda answer their queries...

Yes, all the photos are taken with my Nokia 7650 and uploaded via MMS.

The meeting with the President of Globe was partly to celebrate Emily Abrera's 25th Anniversary in the advertising.

And yes, I think mobile blogging will save MMS because people, especially Filipinos, love to show off their pictures, love to see themselves in some form of media (TV, a magazine, a web site), and it's the best way to "save" all the pictures taken because one can only save some much photos in their phone. Mobile blogging will also allow people to upload/back-up those precious "sweet"/ memorable/ life-changing text messages they don't want to delete.

So, there...

Wow... people are talking about me. ME! ME! ME!

Maybe I should start referring to myself like royalty.

We are flattered by your kind word and we would like to thank you for all your support.

Ahem...

Enough.

It's 2am.

Time to go home.

the sons and daughters of Kanlaon

Last Friday, we attended the 40th Anniversary of KBS, the Kanlaon Broadcasting System, where my mom and dad once worked. I was still a baby when my dad worked there. I barely remember the people there. One of the first people to greet me was Lando, my dad's old driver. Him, I remember. As the story goes, when I was a baby, I could not pronounce his name and just started calling him "Agoong". Hence, he got that nickname and that's what everyone called him. I remember how we used to play chess while waiting for dad to finish work and how I always forced him to make me win. (Makes me wish I forced him to teach me how to play chess better and learn how to not win things so easily.) As expected, as my mom re-introduced me to her old office mates, they all looked surprised and delighted to see me. They would then immediately extend their hand, palm down, and show me how small I was when I first met them. Some would pretend to carry me and tell them they were the ones who ca...

Will you Play it Safe in 2025?

One of my favorite songs which I learned about early this year. Our boss at the agency played this at one of our town hall meetings. It's reminder to all creators that we will always be told to "stick to safe ideas" (which is fine, if you just want to get the work done and go home) but there will always be this other voice at the back of your head that will ask, "Maybe there's another way to do this? Maybe there's a better way to tell this story? Maybe you can tell if from a different point of view and make this old story feel like new? Maybe you can spend a few more minutes working on it? How about it? Let's give it a try? Another hour trying to re-write? Let's give it a go!" What I love about this song is how the lyrics take on the conservative point-of-view and how the visuals show us the exact opposite. One of my favorite bits of this song is this part, where the lyrics starts to give you a "list of commands", like it's a list o...
