Is the day over?
I wish it was.
I wish I was home getting ready to watching the next episode of ALIAS.
But I still need to get several things done here.
So, maybe I’ll be home in time to watch the 1am airing of the show.
Maybe.
The long weekend was spent recharging… sleeping and I only went out at night. (A flashback to my vampire days.)
Got a copy of TAKIPSILIM, another comic book project put together by the La Sallian’s Graphics and Arts Team. This is the third year they’ve been able to pull off this project. Glad that a school org has been able to keep a comic book project going. Ateneo’s HEIGHTS did once. ComicCol now has two under their wing. UP… well, UP Grail has been talking about their Portfolio project for the past two(?) years. Funny, considering there are a lot of good artists in UP Fine Arts and none of them have seemed to put together any comic book project. Maybe they’re just not into that sort of thang! Maybe we just never get any of those copies. I only found out about TAKIPSILIM because Gerry saw someone reading it on the MRT and was able to ask Cecille to get me a copy.
Went to the Comics Creation Seminar. Got a free ticket from Dennis, but I arrived late. I did get to meet David Campiti, the main man of Glass House. Wilson “Battle of the Planet” Tortosa introduced me to David and was trying to tell him what Alamat was all about and that I was part of it. Seems like my credentials didn’t really blow Mr. Campiti away. He just stared at me, blinked, and said, “That’s nice.” But it was flattering for Wilson to say that Alamat was a source of inspiration for him when he starting to get into comic books.
During the seminar, to prove a point, David paid Wilson in cash in front of all those aspiring artists. He paid Wilson something like P100,000. The crowd cheered. It was like an episode of “Laban o Bawi”. You can just imagine how all those kids’ eye sparkled with the possibility of receiving a hundred grand a month for doing something that you really, really like.

So, where was I?
Well, at least we got some stuff approved so the day isn’t so bad.
Anyway, that night at Megamall, I got to see the cover of the next issue of CULTURE CRASH. They changed their masthead. It’s now easier to read. This new issue will have a print ad of GLOBE XTM in the back. Now, if I can only convince Globe to start placing an 8-page comic book in CULTURE CRASH, at least I’d get paid to write comics. Not exactly writing for Vertigo but it’s a living.
Then again, I’d rather be writing my own book, with my own characters. Hoping to get another own published before the end of the year. Keeping fingers crossed.
