RADIO GA-GA

Feeling better now.
Felt crappy yesterday.

I presented two radio scripts to client yesterday and they disapproved the one that I liked. I spent most of Monday writing different scripts and that was the one I liked.

One of the many books that Brandie brought home from Singapore was CUTTING EDGE RADIO by Jim Aitchison. I started reading it during the weekend and I was trying to put to practice the things that I read. So, I wrote one radio commercial where I tried to “give the flavor” of what the product does for you, instead of flat-out saying it and give you the old hard-sell routine.

Well, client didn’t like it.

They liked the other one. I guess it’s okay. I don’t think it’s too much of a hard sell. I think.

To make matters worse, out print ad barely survived. What a great way to end your day—to see your work picked apart before your very eyes.

The problem with reading books like CUTTING EDGE is you see how good ad get produced elsewhere, they tell you how to come up with good ads yourself. But that’s just part of the process. You still have to sell it to client and convince them to go for your “good ad”.

COUCH POTATO-MODE-- SWITCH ON!
So, I went home earlier than usual.

Got to see part of SIX FEET UNDER. The weirdness-Vertigo-factor in this episode was set on “low”. Not as fun as the earlier episodes.

Then tuned in to Discovery Channel’s TOP 10 SUPERHEROES. Got a text from Jay and Rachel earlier in the evening, reminding me about the show. The list was supposedly based on people’s votes. Part of the list were Tintin, Akira, Spider-man, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Hulk, Wolverine, Witchblade, and on the number one spot was Batman. I just find it weird that Witchblade got in and a classic character like Capt. America didn’t. I just find it weird that Witchblade got in and heavily-merchandised character like Spawn didn’t.

Stan Lee was one of the many comic-book creators that were interviewed for the show. He was still a happy man during the time of his interview. (Or maybe he was already thinking of suing Marvel at that point.) The show mentioned that he must be the most influential writer of the 20th century considering his contributions to pop culture. It was also mentioned how his comic book creations have already sold billions of copies worldwide.

After that show, there was nothing good left to watch on TV.

So I went to sleep.

And now I’m back at work and have to revised that ad that was picked apart and produce that radio that I kinda like.

Work. Work.

NOTHING NU?
I hope we can go to the NU107 Rock Awards later.
Quark just texted that Aubrey Miles will be there.
I think she’s good enough reason to ditch work.

The “usual suspects” aren’t going. Actually, they didn’t even go last year. Well, they are right that there are no new bands to watch anymore. I guess it was most fun during the first couple of Rock Awards, when we were somehow part of the production.

I suddenly remember the first time we went to the Rock Awards at the Music Museum, we couldn’t even get in… because we didn’t have invites. So, we said that next year we’d find a way to get in, and we did because Alamat was asked to design the stage. The cast of Batch72 was actually incorporated in the design. If I remember correctly, back then, the “hot VJ” was Regine Tolentino and Mike Kasem. Ha! Where are they now?!

Or the more important question might be, where are we now?

Well, right now I should go back to work.

Work. Work.

PANDAY RIDING THAT HEROIC CYCLE Below is an email ELSA BIBAT posted in the Alamat mailing list , prompted by a thread about making/writing/creating a new Panday story. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Okay, okay, I'm back...and I was hoping to have a break from writing stuff. Anyway, it is incredible that someone actually remembered the post. It's been lost to time for exactly a two years now. Thank you for notifying me. Let's begin with the original videotapes. My original videotapes are lost to time, but, I caught all three of the trilogy in ABS-CBN's FPJ Theater... or was that Saturday Action Cinema? GMA 7 went the entire nine yards and showed the entire series in one of their old Tagalog action film shows that were on Saturday nights. The sight alone of the aliens of Panday IV raising the undead and turning innocent villagers to badly made-up extras makes my belly ache. As an aside, FPJ should exercise the rights a...

I AM A FILIPINO

I am a Filipino – inheritor of a glorious past, hostage to the uncertain future. As such, I must prove equal to a two-fold task – the task of meeting my responsibility to the past, and the task of performing my obligation to the future. I am sprung from a hardy race – child many generations removed of ancient Malayan pioneers. Across the centuries, the memory comes rushing back to me: of brown-skinned men putting out to sea in ships that were as frail as their hearts were stout. Over the sea I see them come, borne upon the billowing wave and the whistling wind, carried upon the mighty swell of hope – hope in the free abundance of the new land that was to be their home and their children’s forever. This is the land they sought and found. Every inch of shore that their eyes first set upon, every hill and mountain that beckoned to them with a green and purple invitation, every mile of rolling plain that their view encompassed, every river and lake that promised a plentiful living ...
Couple of weeks ago, Ms. Diyco featured another campaign made by the creatives here at Harrison Communications. Here's her review about the Neozep "Neozerye" TV campaign: Romancing the mighty colds cure ADS AND ENDS, Nanette A Franco-Diyco BUSINESS WORLD Vol. XX, No. 139, Friday-Saturday, February 9-10, 2007 http://www.bworldonline.com/Weekender020907/main.php?id=marketing_diyco The four television commercials that serialize the life of pretty housemaid Luwalhati, culminating in a storybook wedding to her once-upon-a-time señorito from the imposing mansion belong to an ad campaign awards class all its own. There have been other spoofs of soap operas selling other brand categories in the past. But for several reasons put together, the Neozep series of commercials that began with honest-to-goodness ad teasers that looked and sounded like teasers for true-blue soap operas proved ultra entertaining and more importantly, "reinforced Neozep’s leadership and further s...
