I’ve been offline for week. Well, not really. I’ve been checking mail, but have not had the chance to blog. I went on leave last week. Didn’t really go anywhere. Just stayed in the city from Monday to Thursday. Reverted back to my bum/mallrat lifestyle… and it wasn’t fun anymore. (Yeah, yeah, I know I’m 29 and too old to be a bummallrat.) It wasn’t fun because back in the “old days”, I used to walk around the mall, check out the comic book and book stores, and then meet up with the guys afterwards. I was in the mall the whole day, but everyone else was busy at work. Went to the Bookfair and got two books. The tried to write a story which has been running around the dark corners of my mind since two years ago.
Tuesday was spent at home. Kept on switching channels til I realized there was nothing good on TV. Then went to sleep. I WAS SUCH A BUM!
Wednesday, I went to check and collect sales of BATCH72 in a couple of stores. It’s just crazy how after one year, I only sold four copies in one of the stores. And when I asked the sales clerks what sells, they would always say CULTURE CRASH and WITCH.
Thursday was spent at home. After dinner, met up with the guys to play Warcraft 3! GRAAAHHH! ZUB! ZUB!
Friday. Did something I never thought I’d get to do-- fly out of Manila.
Went to Cebu. Stayed there til Sunday. 30th birthday of a very good friend. Crazy girl, but a very good friend, nonetheless.
At her party, met a guy who recently had to move back to Cebu after years of living in Manila. He said he went through withdrawal symptoms because he couldn’t get his regular comic book fix. THERE ARE NO COMIC BOOK STORES IN CEBU! Can you believe that? Comic Quest and Filbars once had branches there, but they both closed down. Anyway, this guy now gets a monthly shipment of comic books from Comic Quest. I didn’t know that was possible! Turns out he made some special arrangement with CQ. Now, if you can only find more guys will to pay that much for comic books, then you might as well open a store there, right?
We stayed at my friend’s house, in a room with no TV set, and it faced the swimming pool. Friday night, I continued to write that story I started earlier in the week. It felt great… to be able to write again. Unfortunately, I don’t always have that much peace and quiet and that room with a view. Told my friend that one day, I’ll rent out that room again and just bring a typewriter or a laptop and just write… and they should just slip-in the food in through this little slot under the door. Might be the only way to get any real writing done.
But for now, I must write my stories in between writing all that copy for cellphones. It’s the only way to get any real writing done.
