Below is quote from an article by Steve Buccellato, one of the creators/publishers of a new comics magazine called COMICULTURE. Read his explanation of what their group is all about. Might remind you of certain local comic book groups. :)

"COMICULTURE is produced by a pretty closely knit group of comics pros. We are working for FREE, funding the project ourselves, and supporting it with a lot of our own precious time, sweat and love.

"WILL WE BE ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS IN THE FUTURE? The answer to that, is up to YOU, the readers. Today, COMICULTURE is pure ambition. This is what I want to do for a living: publish my own work, and the work of creators I respect. If COMICULTURE succeeds, we will be publishing more frequently than four times a year. I'd love to be able to go bimonthly or monthly. If that happens, I'll be BEGGING everyone around me for good content! Meanwhile, we have the next few issues pretty well planned, and sad to say, if the magazine doesn't catch on, this project will be little more than a really, REALLY expensive hobby!"

I guess that's what we've been for the longest time... one expensive hobby. Instead of spending all that money on modelling kits, spending hours putting together all those little parts of that boat or airplane, we've been assembling comic books.

Last time a bunch of "comic book friends" tried to put something together, it didn't work out to well. No, I'm not talking about Alamat. :)
I'm talking about Gorilla Comics. They were like Image, but instead of being composed of comic book artists, they were mostly made up of writers who just wanted to do their own thing. But they eventually had to close shop after releasing several issues. Their story reminded me alot about what Alamat went through. It least, they were able to complete the run of all their mini-series.

Alamat celebrates its 8th anniversary this November.
We're still around... kinda...
Every year at least one book with the Alamat logo on it gets published.
So, yes... I guess you can say we're still around.

Everyone's been saying that it's going to be an exciting year for comic books/komiks.
The question is, will it be an exciting year for Alamat?
I guess we'll juts have to wait and see.
