Marco reviewed this book around a month ago. Just got my copy tonight from Comic Quest, Megamall.
Well, it's nice and funny... or should I say, funny and nice.
It's another book with that manga-influence (and I say it like it's bad thing, but let's not get into that right now).
It's about three high school boy who build their own giant robot so that they can join the Ultimate Fighting Robot Tournament. That just made me smile because back in grade school, growing up watching Voltes V and Mazinger Z, I had my fantasies of building a giant robot. I went through the extent of making blueprints (with a blue ballpen) of my earth-saving robots. One of them was called TIGERBOT, my version of Go-Lion aka Voltron. TIGERBOT was made up of three tigers that volted-in and became... oh, you get the idea. The other one was FALCON ROBOT, which was compased of five ships based on five birds of prey and they volted in as well.
Anyway, back to the book...
So, we get to meet Pilimon, Toge, and Kasui who grew up under the tutelage of Master Kaioh, who disappeared years ago to look for a legendary robot.
While Pilimon and Toge take their giant robot for a test drive, we get introduced to Kasui while he drools over his lovely mystery girl. Meanwhile, Pilimon and Toge end up battling a mysterious-cooler looking robot and that's where the story ends.
Despite this book being in black-and-white, I had more fun reading this compared to the stories of CULTURE CRASH. Maybe it's because I ended up with a good idea of what the characters are all about and where the story is going, instead of reading an 8-12 page installment and not knowing what the story is all about at the end of it.
So, please do check out GOD MACHINE X. Only P40.00! :)
