C O L O N Y Ants in my car Lately noticed that I've got ants in my car. Today, when Brandie opened the door, he saw what looked like a colony of ants making a mad scramble to move their food from one part of car to another. There were grains of rice and the ants were moving them to God knows where. Then again, those little white pods could have been eggs. I really need to get my car washed. Radioactive Mirco Office Roaches Our office is infested with this tiny roaches. Not the big brown roaches you usually find at home. But little greyish roaches. The other day I saw one of them enter this crack on the microwave oven. My God... the cockroaches are living inside the microwave oven! Can you imagine what kind of mutation they're undergoing? They must be impervious to all kinds of insecticide by now! I even saw one roach go inside the keyboard of the computer. Talk about bugs in your computer! These roaches have adapted to office life. One time, saw ...

In the Tristan romance, when the young couple has drunk their love potion and Isolde’s nurse realizes what has happened, she goes to Tristan and says, “You have drunk your death.” And Tristan says, “By my death, do you mean this pain of love?”—because that was one of their main points, that one should feel the sickness of love. There’s no possible fulfillment in this world of that identity one is experiencing. Tristan says, “If by my death, you mean this agony of love, that is my life. If by my death, you mean the punishment that we are to suffer if discovered, I accept that. And if by my death, you mean eternal punishment in the fire of hell, I accept that, too.” Now, that’s big stuff. Joseph Campbell from “ The Power of Myth ”, chapter VII: Tales of Love and Marriage
left my phone at home. had to go back. crap! not a great way to start the day.
Keeping it cool Already spent around P6,000 on my car. The engine kept overheating. At first, I though it was the auxiliary fan, which was busted. But after I got it repaired, turned out my waterpump was leaking. So, I got that fixed, but my radiator was clogged with rust. That was my Tuesday. My Saturday was spent getting lost in Quezon City, picking a radiator shop at random, spent three hours there. Thank God I had a copy of the first trade paperback of PREACHER, lent to me by Rachel, one of the accounts people in the office, who turns out to be from the sorority that’s connected to the fraternity that Mike joined when he was in college. Which just goes to show how ridiculously small this city is. Anyway, PREACHER was good read. But according to Dave, the search for God just took too long and that’s why he dropped the series long before the Preacher got close to finding our missing Maker. (cheap) Sound Trip Got a copy of Imago’s debut album “Probably not, but most ...
How many day jobs will an artist work in a lifetime? Far too many. It is altogether absurd and unnecessary that she wait tables, learn the mechanics of spreadsheets, or spray perfume on passing customers. But these are things she will likely have to do. In this culture, there are precious few alternatives answers. But at least she will gain a real experience of life for her day jobs; and she may even fashion a second career into which she can pour some love and meaning. Affirmation: I understand that I need money to live. I will approach the issue of money consciously, looking for solutions that free me from the forced labor of day jobs. But while I work my day job, I’ll act honorable and bring my artists’ eye and heart with me. from the book “Affirmations for Artists” by Eric Maisel “Music requires that a man give himself entirely to it, but the world does not wholly agree with this. It demands that he learn and attempt other things.” --Georg Philipp Telemann ...
It's 11pm and Grace just got me searching the web for the collective noun for tigers. At first, I thought it would be a ridiculous search and didn't think the web could provide the answer. Then much to our surprise, people have actually set-up webistes about collective nouns. There's even a website called Fave collective nouns ! Wow! For crying out loud! I can't believe people actually take the time to make a website about collective nouns! Well, before our search was over, I ended up having our own favorite collective nouns. An unkindness of ravens A stack of librarians A mob of kangaroos A murder of crows A parliament of owls A wisdom of owls An unease of compromises And when I saw the "unkindness of ravens", I thought that it would make a good title for a story. Then I remembered that Gaiman already used it as a title for one of the issues of SANDMAN. Damn! He beat me to it again. By the way, a group of tigers is supposedly called a ...

Okay...I love Star Trek, but this is ridiculous! Please beam me outta here!
1:19am... yehey... it's a Saturday... and I'm still the office. Actually, I am happy because I don't have to think about work over this weekend. And I don't want to talk about that client presentation wherein we were rushed and client didn't like several things but at least they liked most of it so thay means we're pushing through with most of it but now we have to revise the stuff that they don't like. Like I said... I don't want to talk about it. Right now, I just want to yell, "YO JOE!!!" Sir, yes, G.I JOE is back! The comic book will now be published by Image Comics and the art looks great! Felt like a kid again when I saw this rendition of Snake-eyes . I can't wait til August! (and there goes my plan for cutting back on my comic books... hmmm... maybe I can convince Brandie to collect this one... ha ha ha)
It's 3:27am. I'm part of this client presentation at 10am. Go away. Come back tomorrow for the gory details. In the meantime, the latest issues of ANGEL ACE and BAYLANS are now available at Comic Quest, Megamall. Go buy it and make me and their respective creators happy.
Ok... now I'm depressed. Just got to read this news item about a new book from Haberlin / Wildstom. It's called TALEWEAVER and I think the entire creative team is Pinoy. writer: Leonard Banaag penciler: Philip Tan inker: Gary J. B. Mayoralgo colorist: Michael "Bart" Bartolo Check out the preview of the cover and an inside spread . Geez, they're living the dream... Okay... okay... so maybe it's just their first issue and their not yet rich and famous, but the mere fact that the entire team is compose of Pinoys and getting their work published abroad is definitely something to rave about. So far, this so-called "PacRim" imprint is doing stories based in Japan. It would be great if these Pinoys can convince their editors to do stories based in the Philippines. Ah, the dream... For now I must go back to writing copy for cellphone ads. Ah, reality.
Oh yeah! Conan is back! I don't know what the heck happened to ZOE 11, but they're now showing CNBC and with that comes Conan! To celebrate we must all dye our hair red!
I'm now an internet cafe, surrounded by people playing Counter Strike. It's either this or go surf at the office all by my lonesome. And suddenly I dont' feel like writing about anything... I had several things that I wanted to write these past couple pf days, but now that I'm seated in front of a computer... I just don't I wanted to say something about the crazy stuff you find on the net these days. From Warren Ellis ' msg board , I found a link that leads to one those auctions sites where an 18-year old girl is auctioning off her virginity. (Oh dear, God... they just started to play WHO LET THE DOGS OUT!_Why... why oh why... ) Ahem... ummm... what was I saying... Oh yeah, the crazy things you find on the net... anyway, the girl had a picture on the site and she looked pretty (if that really is her). Heck, who can even say the offer is for real. Early last year, while reading Gaiman's SMOKE AND MIRRORS , I got this idea fo...
7:35am and I’m at the office. I woke up around 6pm… yesterday! My body-clock is completely screwed up. That brewed coffee at Starbucks last night is definitely not helping. I was at Starbucks, Katipunan last night with Brandie. I was brainstorming for my ad and he was brainstorming for his ad. We spent most of the time looking the pretty college girls. There was this group in front of us. Had their laptops and mini-deskjet printers and Xeroxed reading materials. Makes you wonder what the heck they could be doing considering classes just started. Back in my day (and I’m starting to sound like an old man at the age of 28) we didn’t have Starbucks or laptops. We had to do our study groups at McDo and subsist on their brewed coffee in styro-cups and soggy fries! We had to haul their entire PC to school and print out our reports on dot-matrix printers! Bah! Geez, I’m too bitter for a 28-year old. I txtd some office mates where I was and how it would be great to ...
From Gaiman's Journal: Here are our suggestions for the Neil Gaiman signing tour. Many of them are self-evident, but you never know... Would he like anything special to eat or drink? Clearly Canadian (one of the berry flavours) to drink; no real preferences as to snack food, but Neil still says nice things about the stores on the last tour who had sushi rolls there to nibble on. Ha! From now on I will only drink berry flavored Clearly Canadian! Maybe that will get my creative juices going! I still think some cosmic switch happened way back when. You see, Gaiman was born November 10. My birthday is November 9. Granted, that he's older than me, I'm sure that in some alternate universe, Gaiman's the one writing copy for cellphone ads and I'm the one going on a signing tour for his novel. Dreaming... 1:14am... still stuck at the office.
Got my Gaiman-fix... read the first chapter of AMERICAN GODS . It'll be made available in the United States in eights days. I wonder how long it'll take them to ship it over here. Mark was asking if there was a way we could get Powerbooks to drag Gaiman over here. Maybe Page One would have the money to put together an Asian tour. Can somebody please bring the Dream King here?!!!

It’s 2:44am Back at the office. Just letting my buzz subside. Came from Sanctum . Finally was able to go to Sanctum. I’ve always wanted to go, especially during their Spoken Word every Fridays, but every time I’d want to go, we’d have some work that needs finishing. So, thank God that McCann had a Spoken Word / Thot 4 Food there. Glad that I was able to go and read my works that didn’t have to be cleared with client. Came from client. A 3-hour meeting! And at the end of that long meeting, we weren’t really sure what the client wanted. He just kept saying, “Leadership. Leadership. We have to show that we’re the leader.” Jason was hoping we’d step out of that meeting either really happy (that client accepted our work) or really pissed (because client rejected out work), which would give us good enough reason to go to Sanctum and get drunk. Well, we stepped out of that meeting feeling… nothing. We weren’t really sure how to feel. But we still went to Sanctum...
The quick brown fox humped the lazy dog. The quick brown fox humped the lazy dog. The quick brown fox humped the lazy dog. The quick brown fox humped the lazy dog. The quick brown fox humped the lazy dog. The quick brown fox humped the lazy dog. The quick brown fox humped the lazy dog. The quick brown fox humped the lazy dog. It's 11:17am... the big presentation is tomorrow... I think the pressure is getting to me.
