Brandie & Tin were the team responsible for the our highly awarded ‘Lola Techie’ campaign for Bayan Telecommunications, and they will take over the creative leadership from Simon, who is returning to England as Creative Director of a top London Agency. No.1 Trouble Maker

"Fly High, Seek Peace" -- that's a line from Dinotopia, one of our favorite books back in the 90s. I used it a lot and usually ended my letters, greeting cards, and speeches with that line. I also used it for The Flying Phantom, our comic book character. Ten years ago, Brandie gave me a journal for my birthday and on the first page he wrote: The Adventure continues. We have to wake up a few more times to finish what we have started. To tell stories. Through comics, ads, the net, maybe someday even the movies. We may never be able to run a nationwide television station... but we can evoke emotions through our stories; evoke memories and lives that have yet to be lived by our audience. That is Power. More powerful than being president. I finally realized what kept us from going onto more successful ground. We keep following Flying Phantom's motto, when it should be "Fly High, Seek Trouble!" If my memory serves me right, the very first G.I.JOE toy I made my dad buy was Destro. Back then, me and Brandie still collected Star Wars action figures and were still big fans of the Force. I got Destro because I thought he'd make a cool villain to pit against Luke Skywalker. Couple of weeks later, we saw the Snake-eyes and StormShadow actions figures, and since I was also a big ninja freak, I just had to get those toys as well. Soon enough, the Joes were outnumbering the Rebel Alliance in our toy closet. Then there was that one Sunday when we drove all the way to Magallanes, to visit a small video rental store. That clown from Stephen King’s “IT” freaked us out. Me and Brandie borrowed the LaserDisc of that movie way back in the early 90s. It promptly gave us nightmares and inspired our first comic book collaboration: PAYASO. Brandie was a big fan of Dave McKean, Bill Sienkiewicz, and Duncan Fegredo’s art in ENIGMA. He even managed to hunt down the works of McKean’s mentor: Barron Storey. So, when we decided to do that short story for COMICS 101, he was clearly playing tribute to his comic book idols. The next time we collaborated was for our contribution in the short-lived literary anthology CHIMERA. Once again, I wrote the story and he did the art. Of course, I already told you about the time we published our own newspaper and the time we worked on his Great Taste campaign . Now that we’re working for our respective agencies, we don’t get to collaborate much, but that doesn’t stop him from giving me advice on how to make my work better. Turning Lotus into Gold If you pick up the latest issue of ADOBO magazine, you’ll get to read about Brandie and Tin, how they’ve been hailed as the advertising industry’s new golden couple ; because of their numerous wins in creative competitions, including their winning the Gold in Cannes. Last Friday, at the Creative Guild KIDLAT AWARDS, they reinforced their newly minted title. That night, Brandie and Tin won a total of four Gold Awards and two Silver Awards for ads they did when they were in JWT Manila.
